What is ACDA?

The American Choral Directors Association is the world’s largest organization for choral directors. Its 20,000-plus members are leaders of choruses of all kinds, elementary school through university choruses, church and temple choirs, community choruses and professional choirs, plus representatives of the music industry. Among its services ACDA offers the Choral Journal, a multi-national professional network and annual conventions. National conventions occur in odd-numbered years and alternate with seven division conventions in even years. Membership in national ACDA automatically includes membership in a regional division and a state chapter or affiliate.

NJ-ACDA, our New Jersey Chapter, offers its 420-plus members professional contact, assistance and activities at the local level. In addition to the Choral Journal, members receive the state newsletter, Canticum Novum, and the Eastern Division Troubadour. NJACDA annually sponsors a two-day summer convention, a long established High School Choral Festival involving dozens of choruses at both north and south sites, and the excellent Elementary/Junior High Honor Choir Honor Choirs, the last in cooperation with NJMEA. NJACDA also offers periodic workshops in specific area, e.g. for Men's Music, Choral Workshops for Women, or for Ethnic and Multicultural Music.

Please join us! If you are involved in directing choral music of any kind in New Jersey, we invite you to become a member of NJACDA. We would like to know you, and be a useful network and professional resource for you.

To join, fill out the national Membership Application available online.

Summer Conference
Draws Crowd

Ninety choir directors gathered in beautiful Summit, NJ on July 29th and 30th at St. John's Lutheran Church to relax and reconnect with their colleagues, and to renew and recharge their batteries in the pursuit of delivering the choral art.  Participants enjoyed the energetic Headliner, Dr. Paul Head, from University of Delaware, as well as many clinics presented by their own NJ members. Dr. Head's expertise and generousity of spirit inspired all the choral musicians present. In addition, choir directors walked out with 7 great reading packets of music and enjoyed delicious food throughout while connecting with their choral friends.   We look forward already to Summer Conference 09!!!!
