Now celebrating our 50th anniversary, the Hopewell Valley Chorus is a 60-member, unauditioned community-based group that gives everyone who loves to sing the opportunity to learn, grow, and perform under the leadership of a professional director.

REQUIREMENTS:  Training in choral direction is essential; background in conducting large adult choruses and instrumental ensembles as well as vocal coaching valuable.  Ideal candidate will understand how to work with unauditioned voices in a manner that is professional yet encouraging and supportive.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The music director will be required to:

·        Plan and conduct approximately 30 rehearsals from September to May with two major concerts.  
·        Conduct an abbreviated (approx 10 minute) performance from the spring repertoire at our annual multi-choir charity fundraising concert in March.
·        Select repertoire for concerts in conjunction with member-based music selection committee. 
·        Coordinate the hiring of staff accompanist if position becomes vacant, as well as hiring supplemental instrumentalists for performances. 
·        Conduct auditions for any vocal solos from within the membership. 
·        Work closely with elected board of directors, which handles all business details, funding, budget and membership.

APPLICATION:  Your application packet should include a cover letter, resume, and three professional references.  Audio CD, video, and printed programs of concerts conducted are welcome but not required.

Finalists will be asked to attend an interview on Saturday 4/10 and be expected to complete a 30-minute audition at a regular rehearsal on either 4/19 or 4/26 including warm-ups, work on one piece familiar to the chorus and one piece from a provided list that the chorus is not currently familiar with.  Notification of finalists is expected by April 1^st.
